What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain.
It is an irritation and inflammation of the plantar fascia or a band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot from your heel to your toes.
Plantar fasciitis is more commonly found in athletes.

What leads to Plantar Fasciitis?

The plantar fascia provides shock absorption and support in the arch of the foot.

Some common factors of plantar fasciitis are as follows:
Age and Weight: between 40 and 60 years old; the more weight, the more stains on the foot.
Exercise: rapid movements or abrupt changes of directions, like running, basketball, dance
Foot Shape and Stride: abnormal foot conditions like flat feet, a high arch, etc.
Occupation: long-time stand or walk on hard surfaces
There are several different treatment options available, depending on the severity of your plantar fasciitis.

What are the treatments?

For example, some common home remedies can be helpful, such as
– Applying ice or a cold pack.
– Taping your foot.
– Taking pain relievers based on doctor instructions.
However, a more effective way is to see a doctor, podiatrist, or other professional physical therapists.
Stretches and exercises under instructions can help strengthen the muscles around your ankle and heel and stretch your plantar fascia.
A doctor may also suggest foot orthotics (or orthotic insoles) and night splints.
Splints will help stretch out the arch of your foot and your calf to lengthen the plantar fascia,while sleeping.
The orthotics are suggested to be worn during the day and can either be custom-fit or prefabricated (store-bought).
They will help to evenly distribute pressure and alleviate some pain.
