Your personalized orthotic may require more than a varus or valgus rearfoot post. A wedge may be useful when your patient need greater stability.
From the heel, a medial or lateral wedge is inserted and runs the length of the shell. Depending on its orientation, the wedge is skived medially or laterally, as well as well distally. This results in a smooth wedge rather than a block impression, giving the wearer more comfort.
The medial or lateral wedge is usually manufactured of Ideastep® and is custom-built to the prescriber’s specifications. The wedge can be expanded to any desired length.
There’s no need to be nervous about a wedge. We’re here to address any queries you might have.
